I have to be honest. I planned on my trip to New York to see the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan and maybe another facility, but not the New York MOMA. Ok. How could I not? Well this is a hobby and a not my life.
Anyway, I was in the neighborhood and had time so I dropped by, and it was one of the best travel decisions of my life. I saw Picasso's Les Mademoiselles d'Avignon, a personalized portrait by Frieda Kahlo, along with great pieces by Deigo Rivera and last but not least The Starry Night by Van Gogh.
I remember walking through the galleries thinking, "I remember that painting from my first art textbook, and that one, and that one too..." In person, these pieces did not disappoint. Of them all, I was most impressed by The Starry Night.

I've admired Van Gogh since my first art class and finally being inches from this painting was exciting. The brushstrokes were like the surface of a sculpture, and I could almost feel the movement in the canvas. It was amazing
The building itself held it's own among the pieces in the collection. The main hallway between the galleries has a glass wall over looking a sculpture garden and a great view of the skyline. When I think of New York I think of the city through that window.
Needless to say I had a wonderful time here. My only complaint was that there were a lot of people in every gallery, but for New York, and the quality of the attractions you should expect no less.
The Museum's website is also a good place to spend some time. The pages were extensive and had a lot of information on the collection and coming exhibitions. My complaint with lack of collection information for many museum websites was not a problem with NYMOMA's site.
